Grayton Beers Fish Whistle IPA: Tasting Notes and Review

Alright, so you wanna know about this fish whistle beer, huh? Well, lemme tell ya what I know. It ain’t gonna be fancy, mind you, just plain talkin’ like I always do.

First off, this here Fish Whistle, it’s a beer. Yeah, a beer. The kind you drink. And it’s an IPA, they call it. Now, I ain’t no expert on them fancy beer names, but from what I gather, IPA means it’s got a bit more… umph… to it. You know, more hoppy, they say. Makes it kinda bitter, but in a good way, like a strong cup of coffee.

This particular Fish Whistle, it’s made by some company called Grayton Beer. They’re down in Florida, somewhere. Never been there myself, but I hear it’s nice and sunny. Anyways, they make this beer, and folks seem to like it alright.

They say it’s got a kinda reddish color, like copper, you know? And it’s supposed to taste… well, they use all sorts of words. “Floral,” they say. Like flowers, I guess. And “herbal,” too. Like them fancy spices you see in the store but never use. And “spicy,” even! Not like hot peppers spicy, but… I don’t know, maybe like a little zing on your tongue. It’s all a bit much for me, to be honest. I just like a beer that tastes like… well, beer.

But they also say it’s got a good “balance.” That means it ain’t too bitter, I reckon. And it ain’t too sweet neither. Just right, like Goldilocks and her porridge, you know? And they say it’s “bright” and “lively.” Sounds like a young’un, doesn’t it? Full of pep, I guess. And “satisfying,” which is important. Nobody wants a beer that leaves you wanting more, unless it’s another beer, of course.

Now, some folks, they get all worked up about how clear a beer is. They want it to sparkle and shine, like a diamond. And some of them beer makers, they even use somethin’ called… “isinglass,” I think it was? Sounds fishy, don’t it? Well, it is! It’s made from fish guts, believe it or not! They use it to make the beer all clear and pretty. But I don’t care much about that. As long as it tastes good, that’s all that matters to me.

• Some are lighter, like that “session” beer they talk about.
• That one’s got less alcohol, so you can drink more of it without gettin’ too tipsy, I suppose.

I heard tell of another kind of “fish whistle” too, though it ain’t got nothin’ to do with beer. Seems some fellas like to smoke a little somethin’ while they’re fishin’. They call that a “fish whistle” too. Goes to show, words can mean different things to different folks. But we’re talkin’ about beer here, so let’s stick to that.

So, there you have it. That’s about all I know about this Fish Whistle beer. It’s an IPA, made in Florida, kinda reddish, tastes a bit hoppy and spicy and flowery, whatever all that means. And folks seem to like it. If you’re lookin’ for a beer to try, I reckon it wouldn’t hurt to give it a whirl. But don’t blame me if you don’t like it! I just tell it like it is, you know?
