The Jolly Fisherman Roslyn: A Long Island Seafood and Steak Favorite
Alright, so you wanna know about this Jolly Fisherman place in Roslyn, huh? I’ll tell ya what I know, but don’t expect no fancy words from me, I ain’t one of them city folk.
The Jolly Fisherman, that’s the name. Sounds kinda fishy, don’t it? Well, it ain’t just fish, they got all sorts of food there, or least they used to. Steaks, too! Fancy stuff, like them city slickers like. Used to be open from noon all the way to 10 at night. You could go there with your old man, or a whole bunch of ya, but you best call ahead, make sure they got a table for ya.
I heard tell it was a real important place in Roslyn, right there downtown. Been there a long, long time, they say 66 years! That’s longer than I been wearing these here shoes! Folks said the food was good, real good, and the folks working there were nice enough. But now, they’re closing up shop. Shame, ain’t it?
So, what’d they have to eat? Well, like I said, fish and steak. But more than that, too. They had them little things before the big meal, what do they call ‘em? Appy- somethings? Yeah, appetizers, that’s it! And salads, and soup, all the fixin’s. You could get a whole big meal there, fill your belly right up.
Now, I ain’t never been to no Pietro’s place in Manhattan, but I hear they’re the ones takin’ over. They got an Italian restaurant over there, on 43rd street. But it closed down in November they say. Seems they’re moving out to Roslyn now, into the Jolly Fisherman’s old spot. Guess they like it out here in the country, just like me!
- They say Pietro’s was on Main Street, number 25.
- They got pictures of the place, 31 of ‘em, and folks wrote 26 stories about it, you know, reviews they call ‘em.
It’s funny, ain’t it? One place closes, another one opens up. That’s how it goes, I guess. Change is always happenin’, even when you don’t want it to. The Jolly Fisherman, been there all them years, gone now. But somethin’ new is comin’. Pietro’s, that’s it. An Italian place.
I tell ya, Roslyn’s gonna be different now. That Jolly Fisherman was a real somethin’, a place folks knew. Now it’s gonna be this Pietro’s. Hope they got good food, and hope they’re nice to folks. That’s all that matters, really. Good food and good people. And maybe a place where an old woman like me can sit and have a cup of coffee without feelin’ outta place.
Folks in Roslyn must be missin’ that old place. When somethin’s been around that long, it’s like part of the family, ya know? It’s like losin’ an old friend. But life goes on, and maybe this new Pietro’s will be just as good, or even better. Who knows? We’ll just have to wait and see.
So, that’s the story of the Jolly Fisherman in Roslyn, as best as I can tell it. An old place that closed down, and a new place comin’ in. Life’s full of changes, ain’t it? Just like the seasons, things come and go. But Roslyn will keep on goin’, and folks will keep on eatin’, whether it’s fish or steak or pasta. And that’s the truth, as sure as I’m standin’ here.
And if you go to this new Pietro’s place, you tell ‘em old Sally sent ya. They probably won’t know who I am, but that’s alright. Just make sure you eat your fill, ya hear?
